The church in Corinth is a hot mess. Division, pride, sleeping around, social stratification, hyper-spiritualism and abuse of God’s spiritual gifts, and a lot of bad theology were the norm. Paul knows what’s happening, and yet he doesn’t come in swinging. Instead he starts with Thanksgiving and Grace.
